YVR GETS REAR-ENDED
Canadian Press
An SUV isn't meant to fly, but that wasn't the case early Tuesday morning at Vancouver International Airport. The vehicle practically became airborne as it plowed through the glass doors of the departures terminal, skidding to within a few metres of the check-in line up at the Delta Airlines counter. No one was hurt but passengers scattered as the SUV curled toward them. RCMP say a valet driver mistakenly shifted the vehicle into reverse and accelerated backward through the airport doors. They say airport operations were not affected.

JAL’S 2010 FORECAST
Japan Airlines (JAL) has forecast a total of 419,407 international passenger reservations during the Japanese New Year vacation period from December 25, 2009 to January 5, 2010. Due to significant reductions in capacity, seat load factors are expected to generally improve with Hawaii, transpacific, Oceania, Guam and Korea routes reaching more than 90 per cent. Against the same period last year, JAL forecasts an overall improvement of 9.1 percentage points in load factor as a result of the predicted 11.6 per cent decline in the number of international passenger reservations on JAL Group airlines alongside an estimated 20.9 per cent decrease in capacity measured in available seat kilometres. The JAL Group will operate 76 additional flights, both scheduled and charter, to such destinations as Guam, Hawaii, Siem Reap and Bali. On domestic routes, JAL has forecast that seat supply will be 2.3 per cent lower than the same period in the previous year and expects the total number of domestic passenger bookings to be 1,321,173 reservations, 6.7 per cent down on last year. The projected load factor on domestic Japan flights during this festive period is 61.8 per cent. During this period, JAL Group plans to operate an additional 119 domestic flights to meet demand on popular routes in Japan, such as Tokyo - Miyazaki, and Tokyo - Kagoshima.
