Rosalyn Hunter, director of communications, VoX, talks Texas tourism with HelloWestTravel.com Katie Lister HelloWestTravel.com caught up with Rosalyn Hunter, director of communications, VoX International Inc. on Tuesday to discuss Texas tourism, as well as trends in the western Canadian market, what Texas has to offer and Texas Tourism’s agent university program. Receiving 360,200 Canadian visitors in 2009, about 122,200 of them are from Western Canada -- a total of 34 per cent. Texas has become a popular destination for their neighbours to the west. To break it down, the largest western market for Texas is Alberta with 66,300 visitors, then BC with 30,000, followed by Manitoba at 20,900 and Saskatchewan with 4,900. | CHINA EASTERN OFFERS SHANGHAI TO YVR |

Permanent daily flights to Vancouver from Shanghai announced by China Eastern Airlines The Canadian Press China Eastern Airlines is expanding its service between Shanghai and Vancouver, announcing permanent daily non-stop flights between the two cities. The airline's general manager, Margaret Meng, says the airline plans to increase Vancouver flights during the summer and make the daily trips permanent as of November 1. The provincial government estimates the added daily flights will have an economic impact on the region worth $8 million to Canada's GDP and $5 million in wages. The Chinese government recently granted Canada “approved destination status,” which allows Canadian tourist operators to advertise and market in China. |

| THAILAND WARNING LIFTED; CAUTION RECOMMENDED |

Canadian travel warning against visiting Thailand lifted; Foreign Affairs Department still recommends caution Canadian Press Canada has lifted a warning against non-essential travel to Thailand, but it is still urging visitors to "exercise a high degree of caution" if they choose to travel to the destination. The Foreign Affairs Department notes that a state of emergency still exists in Bangkok and 23 Thai provinces after more than two months of political demonstrations and violence. Bringing a taste of Thailand and Hong Kong to Canada, Silk Holidays, along with Hong Kong Tourism Board, Thailand Tourism Authority and Cathay Pacific Airways hosted the Best of Thailand and Hong Kong Road Show. The event welcomed over 150 agents who attended shows in Prince George, Kamloops, Edmonton and Calgary from May 17 to 21. The objective for the road show was to promote Thailand and Hong Kong as a popular vacation destination in Asia for Canadians. [Full text and pictures]
