WestJet reduces new aircraft orders for two years due to economic uncertainty; says it’s encouraged by early booking trends, but redirects domestic capacity to southern markets

WestJet Airlines Ltd. is putting the brakes on some new airplane orders to slow its expansion plan as economic uncertainty hovers over the discount carrier's growth potential into next year. “In light of the recent contradictory indications to a full economic recovery ... we have re-evaluated our short term capacity growth plans to ensure our capacity is well matched to anticipated demand,” WestJet president and CEO Gregg Saretsky told analysts Thursday. The 112-page 2011/2012 Sailing Atlas presents new sailings in the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Europe, The Baltic, Holy Lands, Greek Isles and Panama Canal for guests to discover along with day-by-day itineraries by region, ship deck plans and Windstar cruise information. New 2011/2012 Voyages include a seven-day sailing on Wind Spirit from Le Havre, France to Oslo, Norway, which departs July 9, 2011, and visits Dieppe, France; Bruges (Ostend), Belgium; Amsterdam, Netherlands (overnight); and Kristiansand, Norway. Anderson Vacations has announced that Aubrey Schmidt is the newest addition to their team, effective today. Schmidt brings an extensive knowledge of the South Pacific, having travelled throughout Australia, New Zealand, the Cook Islands and Fiji. He also worked for 14 years as the Canadian sales manager for Australia Pacific Touring.
