| IATA REPORTS AIRLINE PROFITS |
|
Airlines back in profit in second quarter, according to IATA Associated Press
The International Air Transport Association says 47 major carriers it monitors to assess the industry's financial health reported a net profit of $3.9 billion in the second quarter. The results contrast with the $881 million net loss posted by carriers a year earlier. IATA says airlines in North America and the Asia-Pacific region performed best. The Geneva-based association says European carriers' results were boosted by a $1.3 billion asset sale in the second quarter, without which they would have posted further losses. The Hong Kong Tourist Board announces a lineup of fall events and festivals As summer draws to a close it’s time to think about the fall events being planned throughout Hong Kong. For centuries, the three-day Mid-Autumn Festival has been one of the most important Chinese celebrations and, of course, in the year 2010 the traditions continue. The moon dictates the date: the festival begins as people welcome the full moon on the 14th day of the eighth moon of the year, and bid it farewell on the 16th day. The actual dates are September 21 to 23; but the festivities last for ten days, commencing on September 14 and culminating in those three days set by the moon.
