Mexico Tourism Board announces that it is optimistic for 2009

So declared Daniel Gutierrez, Director Western Canada and Washington for the Mexico Tourism Board, in an address to the local media at a press conference-cum-holiday celebration at Canvas Lounge in Vancouver on December 4. “Canada is Mexico’s second most important international market after the U.S.,” he said, citing January-to-September 2008 figures that show a 19.6 per cent increase in visitor numbers over the same period last year. This compares to a .02 per cent decrease in the U.S. market. Eight hundred and twenty-four thousand Canadians came to Mexico in the first nine months of 2008,” Gutierrez said. CRUISE WEST’S NEW LOOK
Cruise West launches redesigned website; features new look
Cruise West, has launched a redesigned website featuring a new look that better reflects the company’s brand.  Attributes include improved consumer appeal and streamlined navigation that is user-friendly, making information easier to access with one or two clicks. Cruises are now searchable by destination, interest, departure date, duration of cruise and ship.  A video gallery allows consumers to view clips from select cruise destinations that illustrate what to expect from a Cruise West voyage.  Further, there is a schedule of live online webinar presentations, where consumers and travel agents can learn more about Cruise West and specific cruise destinations. B.C. REGULATIONS UPDATED
British Columbia updates travel industry regualtions
The new regulations come into effect April 1, 2009, and are designed to better protect travellers’ interests while cutting the regulatory burden for travel retailers and wholesalers. Following consultation with B.C.’s travel industry and other stakeholders these are some of the changes that were made: Those who operate hotels, motels and resorts do not need to be registered to book accommodation they manage, or to book local travel services. AC PREPARES FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Air Canada announces network capacity increases and holiday season highlights

With the holiday travel season almost upon us, Air Canada has geared up to offer tips for smooth travel experiences this upcoming holiday season. During the peak holiday travel period between December 17, 2008 and January 6, 2009, the airline has increased network capacity between the East and West corridor. In order to meet the demands of high passenger loads expected during the holiday season, the airline has increased capacity with added frequencies or bigger aircraft on key city pairs in the East and West between Newfoundland and Labrador and Alberta. Vacation.com hosts British Columbia agency Owner’s & Managers Mixer Dec. 2, 2008
On December 2, 2008 Vacation.com (VCOM) held their British Columbia agency Owner’s and Managers Mixer at the Brock House in Vancouver. The event included a full turkey dinner with all the fixings and a mini-trade show featuring product overviews by five supplier sponsors including Signature Vacations. VIRGIN OPENS DOORS
Virgin America celebrated the opening of its new doors at Terminal 3 today at LAX. The retro-inspired design of the carrier's new ticket counters are a nod to the original design of the terminal from the early 1960s and will connect Virgin America's guests to the airport's past. The event and ribbon-cutting ceremony with Virgin America, V-Australia and Los Angeles World Airports leadership featured a champagne toast and treats for guests travelling on Virgin America. Remarks and ribbon-cutting wre made by: Virgin America's president and CEO David Cush and executive director of Los Angeles World Airports Gina Marie Lindsey.
