Sandals hosts media lunch in Vancouver Janice Strong
Sandals welcomed Vancouver travel media to Lift Bar and Grill on Monday to talk about the latest company developments over a lunch of West Coast cuisine set against the city’s spectacular harbour. Gordon “Butch” Stewart and sons Adam and Bobby Stewart, along with Gary Sadler and Winston Chang sat down with local trade and consumer writers and editors to spread the Sandals news. The current world economic situation was one of many topics up for discussion. Both Butch and Bobby Stewart arrived in Vancouver directly from World Travel Mart, and while concerned about the current conditions, Butch was extremely upbeat about the prospects of the Canadian market, particularly Western Canada.

Delta Air Lines and Alaska Air Group announce expanded marketing alliance; launch new international routes from West Coast and customers incentives
Delta Air Lines CEO Richard Anderson and Alaska Air Group chairman and CEO Bill Ayer announced an agreement in principle to amend their marketing agreement to make the airlines preferred alliance partners on the West Coast. The amended agreement will offer important benefits to customers including supporting the launch of new Delta long-haul trans-Pacific and Latin American routes from the West Coast; expanded connecting opportunities to and from Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air hubs and focus cities; and enhanced worldwide frequent flier and lounge reciprocity agreements between Delta and Alaska.

Kiwi Link, Tourism New Zealand’s training event comes to Canada for the first time; Vancouver registration now open
Registration is now open for Kiwi Link, Tourism New Zealand’s premier North American product training event, which is coming to Canada for the first time in March 2009. Previously held only in the US, this two-day program is a unique opportunity for the travel trade to receive up-to-date training from New Zealand product operators. The convention will be held at the Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel, Vancouver, March 28 to 29. Registration is open to anyone selling New Zealand, this includes travel agents, frontline reservation staff and sales teams of wholesalers and airlines. Skal announces annual Vancouver X-mas luncheon
The Vancouver Skal Club has announced their annual Christmas luncheon on Dec. 10, 2008, and would like members and guests to bring a toy or cash donation of maximum $20 value. Gifts will be gathered and picked up by the Christmas Bureau at the luncheon. The next Skal meeting will be held on Wednesday Dec. 10, 2008, located at the Westin Bayshore Resort and Marina located at 1601 Bayshore Drive in Vancouver. Registration and reception will be held at 11 a.m. Lunch will begin at noon. Guests are welcome to attend. Lunch cost for guests is $50 taxes included.
