MEXICO'S RIVIERA MAYA TOPS IN VANCOUVER

Vancouver is becoming a major market for travel to Mexico, said Daniel Gutierrez, director of the Mexico Tourism Board’s Vancouver office at an evening hosted by the Riviera Maya Tourism Board at the Empire Landmark Hotel on September 25. Citing a study that tracked advertising effectiveness in the U.S. and Canada, including Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, Gutierrez noted that Vancouver was leading the way in Canada for destination recognition and travel intentions. The study showed that in Canada Mexico was mentioned, right behind the U.S., as the second most remembered destination, while Vancouver is the Canadian city with the highest travel intentions among those surveyed, growing from 15 to  17 per cent over last year. TPI’S NEW REGIONAL MANAGER
Christal Bauer named to new regional manager position at TPI

Travel Professionals International (TPI) has named Christal Bauer to the newly created regional manager position. Bauer will assume the role of TPI’s Western Canada regional manager, effective Monday, 8 September 2008. Bauer brings over twenty years of experience in the travel industry to TPI. Most recently, she held the position of national business development manager – Canada with Ensemble Travel Group. Prior to Ensemble, Bauer held positions within Thomas Cook Canada, Uniglobe Travel, and the Tourism Training Institute, respectively. Bauer holds a Bachelors of Science in Management degree from California State University. "I am excited to accept the opportunity to join such a progressive, growing company,” said Bauer.
