Joan MacKenzie named TRAVELSAVERS Canada’s new business development director – Western Canada

| Joan MacKenzie | | TRAVELSAVERS Canada has announced that it is expanding its sales and service team with the appointment of a new Business Development Director for Western Canada. Effective immediately, Joan MacKenzie has joined the group as business development director for Western Canada. She is responsible for increasing agency membership and bringing the group’s strategic business-building programs to independent travel agencies throughout the region. MacKenzie comes to TRAVELSAVERS Canada with more than 20 years of business management, sales and service experience from Squirrel POS Hospitality System, Security Mailing, Techneos Systems and Globel Direct. She also managed a travel agency; and has provided direct mail consulting services.

Air Transat adds over 130,000 seats to Europe 2009 offerings Air Transat has announced that it has increased capacity of over 130,000 seats to its major European destinations for the 2009 summer season. Added capacity to Europe next summer will include the following western departures: one additional weekly frequency from Vancouver to London, one additional weekly frequency from Vancouver to Paris and one additional weekly frequency from Calgary to London.

The results are in, 46% of readers say that the number/quality of exhibitors is a deciding factor when choosing to attend a trade show
Last week TRAVELHotNews Western Edition asked readers to vote on what would make them decide to attend a trade show. Forty-six per cent of the readers who voted said that the number/quality of exhibitors would make them decide to attend a trade show. Coming in second with 38 per cent of the vote was all the above (quality of food and drink, the number/quality of exhibitors and educational seminars) as a reason for attending a trade show. Tied for third place with only eight per cent of the vote was educational seminars and “nothing would make me go to another trade show.” No one voted for quality of food or drink as a deciding factor to attend a trade show. Cypress Mountain receives new Cypress Creek Lodge
Cypress Mountain, the official freestyle skiing and snowboard venue for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, has announced that the new Cypress Creek Lodge will be opening this winter season. This new 48,000 square foot timber frame day lodge building will feature a large main floor family restaurant, a banquet room, a corporate meeting space and a large bar and grill overlooking the Super Pipe. Ski Run improvements are underway on Benny's, Humpty Dumpty, Black Fly, Meteor and new lighting is being added to Rainbow ski run. Cypress is also adding another two snow cats to their grooming fleet this winter. This coming season marks the completion of the second phase of Cypress Mountain 's $40 million transformation.
