The beachfront, 13,000 square-feet El Cocay Spa incorporates ancient Mayan traditions to rejuvenate guests through a balance of mind, body and spirit. Guests take in calming views of the Caribbean Sea, while indulging in traditional healing remedies and massage techniques based on Mayan legends.
Specially trained therapists select herbs, fruits, seeds, flowers and other natural ingredients for oils and lotions that foster a lingering sense of peace and wellbeing.
Amenities include a Temazcal, the pre-Hispanic steam cabana; hydrotherapy facilities; a Zen garden; meditation areas; massage cabins; a steam room and sauna; yoga and tai-chi instruction; a hair and nail salon; and a boutique featuring native Maya handcrafts.
The spa also houses a high-tech air-conditioned, oceanfront fitness centre offering the latest cardio equipment, including treadmills and rowing and step machines, as well as free weights and a spinning area. Classes are available twice daily.
